I recently got back from an extended trip that included an Alaska cruise. Before I left, I was thinking of all the reasons why I shouldn’t be taking the trip, which included the excuse that there is so much to do and so little time.
However, after taking the trip I realized how much sharper I am, and less stressed. It provided a greater amount of clarity around my goals.
This reminds me of the story of the two lumberjacks that were competing…
They were chopping away, when one of the lumberjacks took a break. The other one thought this would give him the chance to take the lead, but amazingly the lumberjack that took the break actually won the competition.
When asked how he managed to win when he took time off, he replied: “While I was away, I sharpened my blade”.
The moral of the story is that taking a break can actually help you to be more effective at what you do. So remember to breathe, take a break and come back feeling like you are ready to take on the world. To get you started, here is one of my Alaska photos that I want to share with you:
